What's New at the 'Dew:
On behalf of the Doctors and support staff, I thank our dear pet owners for their support of The Dewey Veterinary Medical Center and the Nevada SPCA this year.
We will be closed on Thursday, December 25th. for Christmas Day. We will resume outpatient appointments and surgical services on Friday, December 26th.
We will be open on Wednesday, December 31st from 8:00 AM to 12:00 noon for New Years Eve. We will be closed on Thursday, January 1st for New Years Day. We will resume normal outpatient appointments and surgery on Friday, January 2nd.
Our medical support staff will be in to attend to hospitalized pets and our night tech will be on hand to make sure our boarding pets are safe and warm.

Newer, Easier, Better!
Dog Days of Summer are finally behind us! The heat was remarkable this summer but temperatures at night now are dropping to the low 40's and soon into the 30's. If your dog spends time outside during the chilly hours, be sure to provide a warm dog house or covered crate with plenty of towels, blankets, and even straw to insulate from the cold.

Merial Pet Products has rolled out a new chewable flea and tick product called NexGard, along with Heartgard, and Frontline...all with great $50.00 mail-in rebate promos thru Merial. Buy a year's worth of Heartgard and/or NexGard and your pet gets a no-charge comprehensive physical exam in addition to the rebate!
If you have a trip planned to areas where fleas, ticks, and mosquitos abound, let us provide you with the products to keep your co-pilots safe. First-time Heartgard users will need the in-house heartworm test ($25.00).

We are trying out the Purina line of prescription dog and cat foods in addition to the Hill's Science Diet line. If your pet seems not to enjoy the prescription food as in times past, maybe a change will entice them to eat a bit more with the Purina product line.

Please consider adopting your next pet from the Nevada SPCA right here on Dewey Drive. We offer a free two-week health care warranty on every dog, cat, and small pet when you adopt from this wonderful shelter.
Please be aware that we have a great boarding section here on Dewey Drive...78 indoor/outdoor runs which means you can give us a call at the last minute and we will have room for your dogs and cats (See below for pricing details).

Taking the dog with you on a trip? Please consider visiting us for protection against parasites we don't often see here in Las Vegas. We have the newest products for fleas, ticks, mosquito-borne illnesses, Lyme Disease, and intestinal parasites. We can sell them in single-doses or 3-month packs. If you have children, we recommend yearly strategic deworming to prevent zoonosis, where the pet's parasites are picked up by humans. All these products are very affordable with many offering manufacturer's rebates!
New lower spay/neuter prices!
We have received some new funding from the Kirshbaum Foundation to provide lower cost sterilization services for all clients and shelters. Dog spay and neuter prices from $101.00; Cat spay and neuter prices from $98.00.               Our surgeries include pre-anesthetic blood panels. Call us for our complete out-the-door estimate.

Will you be visiting your friends and family or have folks visit you here in Las Vegas this Autumn? Call our boarding facility, "Affordable Canine Cottages"! We offer a clean dry environment with kennel runs that have an indoor and outdoor layout that the dogs really seem to enjoy. We have over 70 runs, so chances are very good we can take your kids on short notice for most every holiday and get-away vacation season. This is a very good deal priced at $22/day for single occupancy; $32/day for 2 dogs in a run; $42/day for 3 dogs; and $52/day for 4 dogs in one run. The runs are 4 feet wide and approximately 16 feet deep with 10 feet of the run outside where they can sit in the sun. We close the dogs inside at 4:30PM with their blankets and sleeping platforms for safety and comfort.

EVERY MONTH IS DENTAL CARE MONTH!!!!  Yep! It's that time of year again. We have been sending out email and printed reminders to our dog and cat owners with pets 5-7 years old, but we do see many pets only 2-3 years old with noteworthy plaque and gum disease, so please consider taking advantage of our dental cleaning if the little dickens has bad breath or seems to have trouble chewing. Our prices are good all year long, not just in February!

DENTAL SPECIAL PRICE  $217.00 (pets under 5yrs)
                                                               $248.00 (pets over 5 yrs)
*Tooth extractions and oral antibiotics, if needed, are at an additional fee.

Vaccine Clinics are still held every Thursday afternoon (2-4:30pm) and Sundays (11am to 1pm). The great value is that you get an exam and the vaccines for just the price of the vaccines on those two days.
We offer the new Canine Influenza vaccine for H3N8 virus for $19/dose. This is a great adjuvant for dogs that are boarded and/or go to the dog park. Canine influenza is very contagious and usually mild, but it mimics bordatella, so it often goes untreated until it goes to pneumonia. Is it necessary for everyone? No, it's a life-style decision depending on how often your dog is around other dogs.

We offer Early Detection Screening packages for Cancer screening and Senior Pet Wellness Panels. These are great packages for dogs over 7 years old for detecting chronic diseases and treatable cancer. We are bundling the packages at $299.00. The screening packages are not for sick pets, but will apply where you have health concerns or feel something that doesn't seem right. Please inquire!

THE KIRSHBAUM FOUNDATION FOR ANIMALS

In these troubling economic times, the efforts of The Kirshbaum Foundation for Animals becomes even more important.  People and their loving companions, more than ever, need assistance in getting their animals spayed and neutered.  Through the Foundation's efforts, more dogs and cats are being spayed and neutered, decreasing the number of unwanted animals entering our municipal shelters.

The Foundation provides second chance housing facilities, so fewer animals are turned into the municipal shelters, thus decreasing the number of fine animals euthanized on a daily basis.  The Foundation's financial aid to Clark County Housing Seniors provides financial assistance to buy pet food and provide animal vaccinations so that our Seniors can enjoy the companionship of a pet.

Your financial contribution will allow The Foundation to provide these valuable programs, decreasing the number of stray animals and placing many more in loving homes.

Contributions to The Kirshbaum Foundation for Animals can be made at Dewey Veterinary Medical Center or by sending your check or money order to Dr. Eugene L. Kirshbaum Foundation for Animals 4800 W. Dewey Drive Las Vegas, NV  89118.  The Kirshbaum Foundation is a 501-C3 organization, making all contributions tax deductible.

Best Regards,
Steven Scott, President
